Gender Revealed

Yesterday was an amazing day in our little life.  Not only to have the gender of our little rainbow baby revealed, but also to be reassured that everything is "perfectly healthy".  No cleft lip, 4 chambers of the heart, no increased nuchal fold, gorgeous spine, femur and humerus normal, placenta in correct position, and cervix closed and thick.  We are so fortunate and thrilled to share the pictures of our beautiful baby BOY!

Feet

Legs crossed at the ankles (on the left)

Head on the left and legs flexed all the way OVER his head!

Spine with booty on right and legs bent at knees

Definitely a boy!

Another view of "boy-ness"

Leighton, on the other hand, is having a more difficult time adjusting to the fact that it's a brother and not a sister.  Since the day we told her there was a "baby in mama's belly" she has INSISTED (in only a way a 3 year old could) that it's a girl/sister!  We've tried various approaches to talk about why it would be ok if it was a boy, but she just isn't having it.

Here is a priceless video of her, while we were still in the doctor's office, telling her for the 3rd (!) time that it is indeed a boy and that she will have a baby brother.  I'm so glad I thought to video tape it.  It will be amazing to share when the two of them are older.

The rest of the day, we were on cloud 9, literally.  And, I even got to cozy up to the big sister during a sunset boat ride at Grandma and Papa's house.

Love. Love. Love.
P.S.  I can't believe I'm having a SON!  It's crazy to even write those letters!!

Pregnant again!

Yes, you read that right.

I am finally pregnant again.

It only took 10 months post miscarriage,

1 chemical pregnancy,

and 7 (!) fertility treatment cycles.

It was a struggle and an emotional rollercoaster to say the least.

We had the successful fertility treatment performed on December 31st, 2011, which unbenounced to us, meant we were starting 2012 in the best way possible: pregnant!

On January 15th, I finally decided to test; scared of the umpteeth negative, but lo and behold:

That was a very exciting and happy night!

My bloodwork was drawn the following day.

Over 5 is considered pregnant; over 50 is considered "a healthy pregnancy"

I was 463!!

Needless to say, twins were certainly a potential.

48 hours later, another draw (hoping to have my original number double)

And....1227!

2 weeks later (at 6 weeks 4 days), we saw this:

And better yet, there was a heartbeat already.

1 week later, we got a better view and confirmed just 1 baby (7 weeks 4 days):

(Upside down, doing a headstand!)

Again, one marvelous little heartbeat fluttering away!

That was all very reassuring, but I was still anxious and scared given that I had seen a heartbeat before, when I lost the last pregnancy.  Boo!

Luckily, I have now officially passed the gestational milestone of the miscarriage and have decided to embrace this pregnancy full hearted.

Miscarriage has a way of ruining those special early moments, but I refuse to allow it to hold any more power of this little angel growing inside of me.

Will I still worry?  Of course.

Will I still take all my meds just as directed? Of course.

But I refuse to believe this might not happen anymore.

This will happen.

I will take this little one home in my arms.

I will.

I am so thrilled to share this news.

I am ~10 weeks pregnant right now.

I am due September 23rd.

I feel great (enough symptoms to reassure me, but not intolerable)

Leighton is super excited to be a big sister!

And yes, we will be finding out the gender and sharing with you all!

I am so grateful to be in this position again.

So very, very grateful.
